MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS: MSP’S BRING VALUE AND MINIMIZE LOSS
A managed service provider can help you make the most of your telecommunications choices. There are a number of providers, with new ones coming on the scene nearly every day. Some of the new services that are being developed are not available from all of the providers yet, while some that were standard are being dropped in favor of new technologies and more cost effective networks. It may be impossible for a company to stay on top of all of these developments on its own and manage its business at the same time. A managed service provider will know what the latest and greatest technologies are, as well as which provider is the best at getting them installed, maintained, up and running.
Because SIP trunking splits voice and data into two separate connections, it can relieve some of the problems that overloaded systems experience, including dropped phone calls or misdirected service. New standards require that the end user have a registration in a number of situations: If the end user has a dynamic IP address, if the provider does not support static host names, and other situations. Security is, however, a problem with the SIP trunking connection, because it may become a channel through which the internal company network may be attacked. Installing additional safety measures should mitigate this however.
It is the rare company that does not run at least a portion of their business calls through their internal network. The days of having one network for data and another for voice are largely over and done with in most areas. The exception is for those areas where there might be limited access to broadband internet connection or to other options for networking. This again, is another area where having a managed service provider may keep a company from being tied into a service because they think it is the only one available when that is simply not true.
While a company owner may be capable in every aspect of business, there is no way to be an expert in everything. Making sure that you have the right telecommunications and data services for your company is a major priority because the bulk of business is done via telephone or online these days rather than face to face. Having the right provider and the right service can help you make sure that you are moving your company forward, always.
A final consideration in having a managed service provider, beyond the fact that they are aware of all of the new technologies, is that you are eliminating one of the major potential headaches that you as a business owner would face. Negotiating a new contract for telecom services can take a year or more. Installation of the servers can be a two-month-long process. If you do not time the end of one contract and the beginning of a new one correctly, you could put your company at risk of being without telecommunication capability while you rectify the problem. A company doesn’t have to be without these services for long before experiencing major negative repercussions.
