MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS: PRIMARY CONSIDERATIONS WHEN RELOCATING

officerelocation-revisedWhen a company is listing what is important to their success, they often list the employees, telecom network and other aspects near the top of the list. However, when they are moving from one location to another, the telecom network is often one of the last things that they think of. They may remember to move the office plants and the coffee pot, but they do not think of the IT needs they will continue to have until the last second. That is a very dangerous plan, one that can keep the company from being productive in their new location for many weeks. It takes time to set up a new network, especially in a new office building that has not already been wired and ready to go. As soon as you know that you will be moving, preferably between 60 and 90 days before, call your managed service provider and set up a review.

Technology has changed in leaps and bounds and it takes a dedicated professional to keep up with all of these changes. Many of the smaller companies have consolidated and are now a larger company. Many of the familiar services are gone and are being replaced by other options that could confuse you if you do not have an expert to explain them and walk you through the advantages and disadvantages of each. That is why it is so important to have managed service providers do all of the leg work for you- because it is their job to know the industry and what your company needs both in the old location and in the new. Perhaps you are moving to a larger office because you are expanding. Maybe you are moving to a smaller office because you are downsizing. Either type of change would mean a change in the telecom needs that you have. Giving the MSP adequate time to make all of the reviews and recommendations will ensure that you are not only getting the telecom services that you need, but at a fair price as well.

The managed services provider can explain why it takes so long to get a network up and running, especially in a new building. For one thing, the wiring has to be done precisely not only so that the network will work correctly but to meet building standards and codes. In addition, one poorly wired component can take down an entire system so this is not something that you want to rush. The longer you wait to make the call, the longer it is likely to take, so always make sure that you act on the recommendations of managed service providers as quickly as possible, even before you start packing up your old office. You want to be up and running when you move in not several weeks later. Do not leave these tasks to the last minute or you might end up packing up your business for the last time.
