MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS:TELEPHONY TO REDUCE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT?
No matter what type of company that you have, the need to reduce your global impact is a very important one. While most companies do their part with environmental concerns by reducing their need for resources, recycling what they can and reusing other items, there is still a lot that can be done. One of the biggest impacts that any company, regardless of size, makes on the planet is with the carbon emissions created simply by its existence. Cars driving in and out of the parking lot cause emissions. People are traveling from place to place for meetings and to run errands. The cost is extraordinary, not only in terms of money but in the cost to the environment as well.
Saving time, money and resources
Using a virtual call center for customer service, from order to returns and beyond reduces the amount of space that a company will need to take up as well as saving resources and cost. Instead of having a huge factory that includes office space for the call center staff the company can focus on the manufacturing of their product and allow the call center duties to be handled by an offsite, virtual call center instead.
Using remote access for work and meetings
Instead of trying to coordinate several people to come to a meeting, the meetings can be held by teleconferencing right from home or office computers. This is especially beneficial to those companies that have several small branches in remote or scattered locations great distances away from the main branch. For instance, a company that provides in house services to people with disabilities may have locations in each of the counties that it serves, and a main branch in a larger city area. The far flung offices will still have to communicate with the main branch, often on a daily basis. Trainings and employee enrichment services may only be offered at the main branch meaning that one or two people from each county office will be traveling to and from. This might happen every day, every week or every month. If each of these meetings can be set up as a remotely accessed, computer meeting instead, the time and money savings would be huge. The savings alone would be enough to upgrade the companies telecom network to handle this concept, although most probably are at or near this capacity already.
Remote work means there is less employee downtime
Think of the last time that you walked down the hall way of an office and saw every desk occupied by a happy and healthy employee. It just does not happen. The more people that work in the office, the more chances there are of a serious illness making its rounds. Some people, especially those who cannot afford to call in sick will drag themselves in to work. Considering how contagious some illnesses are, this is just not good business sense. The option of working all or part of their weekly shift from home can not only cut down on absenteeism, but on the chance of getting ill in the first place. It also cuts down on employee turnover because a happier employee is a more loyal one as well.
