MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS: BUSINESS TELECOM PROVIDERS

23 March 2010 149 views View Comments

The world of business can be confusing – there are reps at each of the telecommunications providers who would just love to sit and tell you how great their services are, how much money you will save over their leading competitor and how fast and reliable you will find them to be.  What they do not tell you is that you are talking to one of many people who are sitting in a room and reading from a script.  If they feel that they are going to make an actual sale, they will transfer you to their “supervisor”, who is nothing more than another level of sales agent who will go through the same or similar spiel once again.  If you are paying careful attention, you might notice some variation on a theme – that great price that was quoted by agent number one is now something entirely different.  If asked, they will explain that that the first price, the one you were interested in, was nothing more than an “introductory” price that is no longer being offered and that it was the agent’s “mistake.”

MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS: TAILORED SOLUTIONS FOR TELECOM

For a moment, pretend that there are only three telecom providers.  Of these providers, Company A offers the better pricing plan but does not have the data services that your company relies on.  Company B offers the services that you need but at a far steeper price per service.  Company C has similar services but does not have the big name or the established history of the other two.  What if a third party could negotiate a package that is not only the right amount of services for you but gives you an affordable price as well?

Using managed service providers to get you to this point for your telecom needs is important, not only so that you can save the time and money of doing it yourself but so that you are not paying for services that you no longer need.  For instance, Lewis at Company A may convince you that you need fax, phone, internet and long distance services as well as other telecom costs that you will eventually realize are superfluous at best.

MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS: PROVIDING MORE THAN JUST SERVICE

A telecommunications managed service provider does more than just provide a service of any kind; they provide peace of mind and the confidence that you are getting the best services for your company at the best price.  You also get the benefit of a company that is going to help you to make decisions that are not based on a sales quota or a spiel that is being read from a script that does not take into account your individual business needs.

MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS: REPLENISH TIME AND MONEY

For every minute that you are spending on the phone with the four or five people from a single company that you have to talk to in the hopes of getting a single price, you are losing a dollar.  If that equation is true, then a fifteen minute phone call has cost fifteen dollars.  If you are calling four or five providers a day and spending a comparable amount of time on each of these calls, you are tossing money out the window.  What about the work that you should have been doing during this time?  Was the work being done by someone who does not have the same level of education or training?  Will the work have to be redone, costing even more time and money, or worse, is the work simply not being done at all?

It only takes one phone call to the managed service provider, explaining your current setup, how it works and where it is failing you and then you are set.  You are not leaving work undone while you take care of other aspects of your business, and you are not wasting countless hours on the phone getting the department-to-department shuffle.  It is all done for you, so you can once again get back to the business of business.
